Yunomi Tea cup wood-fired ceramic
A tea cup thrown by ceramicist Yuichi Romita using wild clay from Jutland, Denmark. The clay is dark and coarse in texture, yet both elastic and strong. It comes from a brickworks that has since closed and is a material Yuichi has worked with for many years.
The cup is fired in a wood-fired kiln, where the fire and ash create variations in colour and surface that cannot be entirely predicted. Each cup takes on its own character, shaped by both the hand at the potter's wheel and the firing process.
A cup made to be used. Over time, the unglazed surface takes on traces of hands, water and tea – a natural part of the material's continuing life.
